NAME: Germaine Go J-Minn Date of Birth:12 June 2007 Place of Birth: Thomson Medical Centre Mummy Name: Lim Lee Ching
Diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse with severe regurgitation at NUH on 29 Jul 2007 when she was 16 weeks old. Subsequently, have been seeing cardiologists at KKH.
Had her first op on 28 March 2008 when she was slightly 9 months old. Mitral valve was repaired by Dr Shankar and was transferred to CICU in just about 4 hours after she was sent into OT. She was extubated on day 4 of op but was intubated 1.5 hours later after she showed signs of breathlessness. Germaine was finally extubated on day 8 and was transferred to CSDU where she remained stable. She was discharged on 13April.
1 week after her discharge , she was supposed to come back for followup with Dr Shankar. 21 April 2008, she was admitted to CSDU for haemolysis. Mummy noticed that her urine colour was dark, almost like the colour of coffee. Dr Wong admitted her and had her blood tested. Her HB level was as low as 7.0 and was given transfusion. She was discharged on 29 April 2008.
Subsequently, her HB level kept dropping and she had to have 4 transfusions within a period of 3 months. That was when cardiologists decide that she had to go for her 2nd op.
Her 2nd op was scheduled on 25 June 2008. Once again, it was Dr Shankar who performed the surgery. This time she was only pushed out of the OT about 7 hours later. She responded well and was extubated on 27 June 2008. Both chest tubes were removed on 29 June 2008. Transferred to CSDU on 30 June 2008 but she developed an episode of fever probably due to viral infection. Finally, she was discharged on 8 July 2008.
